Newbie - glove recommendations
« on: December 31, 2009, 11:13:00 AM »
Hello, thanks to a Christmas gift from my wife and a Tradgang friend willing to help her find it I am new to traditional archery and this site.  I have shot with tabs and gloves and have determined that I prefer a glove.  As far as gloves go I have also found I prefer a softer leather.  The glove I was borrowing to shoot with with had the make worn off.  I would appreciate any recommendations in regards to brand and source for such gloves.

Welcome to the world of Traditional Archery. Its a blast. I really like and have had good luck with the "Goat Skin" glove from Kustom King.

I agree with Jmgcurve, the Kustom King "Goat Skin" glove is what I use.

I recommend the American Leather Big Shot Glove.  I have both the elk & buffalo leather styles, best glove I've ever shot...

Give the Super glove and Dura Glove from 3 Rivers a try. I like the cordovan tips on the Super and I shoot 60lb bows. My son shoots the Dura Glove and likes the feel of the string. Cannot wear out either one of them, super product.

The Super glove is a great choice. It will last you a long time if taken care of. It does take a little bit of time to break in but it is well worth the effort.

If you like a thinner glove, try the Duraglove. It has cordura nylon tips. As NoCams said, they are nearly indestructible. I have used one for a few years now. I tend to use my tab most of the time, but when it gets too cold, I put my duraglove under a wool fingerless glove.

The SuperGlove is another tough glove, but the tips are thicker and take some getting used to. The cordovan leather is the slickest stuff going though. That's what my tab is made of. I just gets better with time (slicker and more supple).

Welcome aboard by the way!

I am fairly new to Trad (little over a year) and have experimented with just about everything under the sun. I can't shoot real heavy draw weights so I like thinner material for feel. I've had some really costly tabs and gloves but the glove I use now is the cheapest one out there, but I only draw 48 to 50#s and shoot two finger split.

Everybody is different. You got to try them to find yours.

The super glove is a good one and you can get a good feel of the string. I personally shoot an old berlin glove. I've tried tabs but just don't like them much. Not sure what it is.

I also use the Damascus glove. Only about $15 and it's very comfortable. My 1 cent.

I've got the wet shot from american leathers.  It's the same as the big shot but it's made of neoprene.  I bought it when I lived and hunted in a rain forest, with nearly 200 inches of rain per year and was tired of mucking up leather gloves and tabs.  The neoprene on this glove sort of "hugs" your fingers like no other material can.  Plus, I never worry about weather conditions or dropping it in the drink.

Hey Colin, good to see you posting. The glove you shot last night is kangaroo skin, but I can't remember the name of it.

I shoot a tab, but if I were to go back to a glove, it would be the super glove as mentioned above, and then the big shot after that.

american leather big shot. I have them in both the buffalo and elk. Great protection for heavy bow. Takes a couple of shooting sessions to break them in but they wear like iron.
