One thing's for sure. Arrow styles have changed drastically from 1957 to now.
Most of the older photos I have seen have parabolic fletching although we think the shields are more tradional looking.
Virtually all of the fletching was natural barred turkey feathers.
Cresting was simple with no trim around the middle of the fletch section or near the nock.
Colors were your basic primary colors.
The arrows of today are mind boggling and a visual treat to say the least.

If I am not mistaken, during times of war the cresting was used by the fletcher as means to identify the individual archer and possibly display the strength or tolerance (spine) of the arrow..
My guess is that in combat, one wouldn't want an archer to get hurt by having a weak arrow..
I am also guessing they didn't much do splicing whilst at war ^^

Ok I LOVE THIS THREAD - just can't image shooting some of these beauties though WOW...
I mean it...WOW - some of the splicing that is ARTWORK.....I'll take one of each just to have a display case for friends to admire.
