New to the site and clueless about bows.

Hi everyone!

I got a used Martin Rebel for christmas and am looking forward to learning the ins and outs of traditional archery.  Since it is a right hand bow and I am legally blind in my right eye it looks like I will be learning the instinctive method.     I am trying to read through the site and find the things I need to work on first so I dont develop bad habits.  I look forward to getting to know ya'll it seems you have a real nice group of people on here.

Gary you came to the right place to learn. The folks on this site are the most helpful you'll ever find. Make sure to get some arrows correctly spined for your bow to start with and then you can work on proper form,form,form,form.

I'd recommend picking up a copy "Instinctive Archery Insights" by Jay Kidwell.  I'm trying to shoot right handed with a dominant left eye and his discussion of this topic 'may' be of use to you.

Welcome To The Gang!!! All of us here will try to keep ya on the right track...When you buy/order arrows, would be a good idea to get-em with Bright Colored Feathers and Nock...And YES Kidwells book it a good one...

As stated above: Gotta learn the proper form technics/principles first...Get the right arrows matched to you and your bow...THEN you can start shooting targets at a given distance...

I started this trad stuff eight years ago...Made alot of mistakes along the way... :( ... Wish I had this forum back then... ...You are one of the lucky ones... ...Cause you'll get it "right" from the start!

Thanks for the warm welcome.  The bow says its 40# at 28"  not real sure what my draw is though.  The arrows that my inlaws bought with it are xx75 easton 2117  the guy at the pawn shop cut them to 26 inches and they have 100grain tips on them.

Don't get too heavily invested in specific arrows just yet.  You need to build your strength and learn some form because your eventual draw length will change from now, and as a result you could end up with arrows that are either too stiff or too weak.

Hey Elu, welcome aboard!
I think those arrows are way overspined for your set up, and will probably be too short unless you have a very short draw length. I'm thinking 1916 or 1918 might work well for ya, with 125 grains up front.

Sounds good to me.  I am trying to sort through the site and piece together what all is entailed in this ever important form.

grip on bow (not real sure how i should be gripping)
