What kinds of rests do you use
« on: January 07, 2010, 09:32:00 PM »
Just wonderin what kinds of rest you guys like to shoot. It looks like the the only ones really used are off the shelf with a plate with the bear hair and the other little ones that hold you arrow off the shelf dont really know what they are called.

Velcro has worked well for me, and I really like sealskin also.

I shoot off the shelf with hair rests. Also use Traps feather rest on a couple.

Velcro or leather. However I have noticed that when the velcro starts to wear it affects arrow flight. So lately I trim down the "bushiness" first.

Usually sealskin but I didn't have any handy for my most recent bow purchase so I just used calf hair and will keep that on until it needs to be replaced. I don't think it matters really.

Velcro, however I recently bought a BW that has seal skin, seems fine but will replace with velcro, seems to last

Velcro on the rest, but I have used Velcro, seal sking, calf hair, and leather on the riser strike plate.

Shot a T-300 1/2" above the shelf & vanes for quite awhile, primarily as vanes are way less expensive and far more durable than feathers.

I recently went back to a simple rug rest on the shelf, with either a leather or rug strike plate, and feathers.

Both shoot well, but off the shelf & feathers gives me better flight and seems more accurate.

Who knows, if I go broke buying feathers and get sick of re-fletching every time I take my bow out (pretty much every day when it's decent outside)I may go back...

I double check my harness, snug up the strap and just kinda "rest my eyes", the snoring is just to fool the critters into thinking I am actually asleep.

I hope I don't get banned for this, but I set my Martin Jag T/D with a whisker biscuit! Shooting pretty good so far, but the true test will be in a couple weeks in TX with CK.
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not.

May Thors Hammer ring in your favor!
