Talked to a neighbor.. Got a Bear
«

Was talking to one of My neighbors and he gave me a old Bear Alaskan left/right handed bow.
I'll take pix later and post them. this was written on the handle NH850 62" 41#. Right now it has endless loop string and I want to get a flemish string for it.
Does anyone know from the this info what year it is? I'm thinking it's from the 70'eds but not for sure. It has looks like black back and orange belly.

I believe that is a 1959 or 1960 model. Fondly called "the Haloween bow" due to the orange class. Nice find.

Thanx Danny,
Does anyone know what the brace would be? Also I just checked the draw on it and I pull 28" what would be a good arrow set-up.. I would like to go after Hogs & deer with it, But might just settle to make it a bowfishing rig or just a shot around bow.

One of my favorite Bears to shoot (and hunt) and I call them all '59s if they have the black / orange glass - sounds better than 59 or 60. They like a light spined arrow since they are about 3/16 out from center shot. Good bow score!

The '59 Catalog lists the brace range as 6-1/2" to 7-1/4". Mine behaved best at the higher end.

From string to deepest part of handle is 8 1/4". If I go from the belly side of the shelf it's 7 3/4"
The string that came with it is 58" long. I'm guessing that is 1" to long, if long bows get a 3" shorter string.
I took off the leather handle wrap and the rest/plate. I don't see anything wrong with the bow what so ever. Since the back glass has some nicks, I think I'll snake skin it.

Yup, that string is about an inch too short. Should be somewhere around 7" from the string to the deepest part of the grip.

Thanx for the info.
To others that have this same bow with the same weight or close to it. What are some of the game you have taken with Your Bear Alaskan Bow.
