wood burnt deer pic on leather
« on: January 13, 2010, 02:52:00 PM »
i decided to put a pic on the center upper section of a tube shaped quiver, like the other one i made. where you pull the arrows out of the side slot. just figured i'd share the pic with you even though the quiver isn't complete. had to wood burn the pic while the leather was flat vs doing it after the quiver was rounded. i'm making this quiver out a thicker leather(belt leather?) so i wouldn't have to use 3 layers of deer hide and a layer of plastic. i'm really happy with the results, if i decide to put a pocket on the quiver it'll be off to the side, the side away from my back. think you'll all like this one.... thanks, i'm hoping the quiver turns out as good as the pic. if i for some reason mess the quiver up i'll be cutting off the pic for sure.

:)  just drew it out, then transferred the basic outline onto the leather, then slowly and carefully wood burnt the pic(no eraser kinda sucks)
thanks for the compliments, makes me feel like i can still do something. after getting hurt at work 3 years ago and basically being "laid off" for 2years(they did that so they could fire me without the union doing anything), i don't have much sense of accomplishment, this helps. thanks again everyone... jay

Man that looks great. That would make a great window decal also. Finish the quiver and let us see it. You have a talent.  :clapper:    :clapper:

What size tip did you use? I tried one before and I got uneven marks in the burn area!

just a regular tapered tip. it isn't smooth in the dark burnt areas, there are bumps, crevasses or what ever you'd call it. just hard to see it in the pics. if you look close or run your fingers over it it has texture
