Is lacquer paint the only way to go when dipping and cresting arrows? I cant find white lacquer in anything but gallon cans.I could use some experienced advice. Thanks for the help!

No, lacquer is not the only option. Many use simple spray paints and crest with testors model paint. I know of some that use water based paints for both the dip and crest.
I use Bohning lacquers, so I cant be too specific with other paints. I just havent used enough other stuff to have an opinion.
The main thing to do is make sure that everything you end up using is compatible.

I like the water based also. I'll usually wipe the whole arrow with it if it's for the kids. Orange is good for the kids. It's not a bright, shiney color like other paints, though.

Oil based house, and trim paints, I've used them for years. Testors for cresting. Water based poly over the cresting for protection.

Spray paint for cap "dip",and testors paint for the cresting work.
Dipping is WAY too messy for me.

Don,
Try Three Rivers Archery (They are a sponsor here... Just click on the link above)for options. I have used Bohning products exclusively for the past 20 years... Until I finally tried the 3 Rivers products a month ago! The lacquer offered by 3 Rivers is only 1/3 of the smell of the Bohning products! You don't have to buy a gallon either... Look at the recommended capacities on the Little Dipper tubes...

I use Rustoleum and Krylon spray for the Crowns, Testors and Rustoleum for cresting, minwax stains and Hellmsman Spar urethane for the finish. Very little odor, the laquers realy smell.

I do the acrylic spray cap and testor's model paint crest. I then use Minwax Wipe On Poly and I wipe it on, not dip.

Bohning Products, IMHO of Course, are Over Priced and Over Rated. Especially when there are SO Many Alternatives Now that werent Around Before.
