All the bows I hunt with are between 50# and 80#. Prefer hunting with 65-80#, both longbows and recurves.
And yes kybowman, I do snap shoot the 80#er.

I do own bows down to 30#, but everything under 50# is for the use of those that don't shoot much, or are just learning to shoot trad bows.
( don't mean that's the only people that should shoot these weights; I mean that is who shoots my bows in that weight range.)

Also I have nothing against those that choose to shoot lighter weight bows. I just prefer the heavier weights, I shoot them well and have been shooting them since I was about 12 or 14. Will continue as long as my body allows me to.

Between 50# and 65# I mostly use for small game, although I do prefer 60# for Turkey. Guess because the 60# is a short bow and easy to shoot from a tight blind or while sitting.

Don't have a specific favorite bow but something in the low to mid 40s is what I shoot most when hunting. They won't less us hunt with lighter bows here because of the 40lb min.I guess the size of our bears makes them err on the heavy side for bow weights.
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

The more a person can shoot the more weight he can shoot.  At one time I had a 30yd range in the back yard and shot more days than not. I was comfortable w/ bows in the mid 60s draw weight and didn't need to snap shoot, I could hold for awhile.  Shot them pretty well.

Then I got all busy with work, etc., eventually sold the house and now have to load up gear and drive 5 miles to shoot. Over a period of several years I went from shooting most days to maybe 3-4 times a month. I now shoot bows in the high 40s to low 50s.  50#s is a requirement in Wyo for elk so that's what I generally hunt with.

54 to 61# all with clickers

My bows rang from 43# to 52# at my draw length. I used to shoot bows in the mid 60# range but the older I get the better the lighter bows feel.

Have a 45, and my new CM is sposed to be 50ish. I would like to build a bow that's around 60 though, just for the hell of it to see if I can pull something with a little weight on it...

dnovo

57# for everything. I have several bows at that weight. I hunt, 3d and target shoot all with them

I don't snap shoot because I can't hold the 80# bows.
I snap shoot because that's the way I learned to shoot pheasant when I was young, and still tend to shoot deer that way. I prefer to draw and shoot in one quick motion, don't hold at anchor unless I'm shooting targets or sometimes on 3D.
( Just want to clarify that point.)

Its not the size of the animal you hunt that matters. Its how you hunt the animal.
