1st squirrel
« on: January 15, 2010, 01:06:00 AM »
After about three years of trad hunting I finally got my first squirrel.  The past has been filled with near misses, close calls, and dodged arrows.  I would probably have killed one by now if I did more actual squirrel hunting.  I get most my shots while walking into a deer stand or out deer scouting.  This afternoon was dedicated to squirrel hunting.  The squirrel was shot with an easton Legacy and hex head.  The bow is a 50# Kodiak Hunter.  I did a thread on the bow some time back.

Awesome!  I have lost some of my best arrows at squirrels while deer hunting!  They are in no way easy game.  Congrats!
You going to come to the Tradgang Iowa bunny hunt?  I think it will be fun.

Congrats, I have shot hundreds of arrows at those critters, only hit one and he ran off with my arrow in him half way up a tree until the arrow finally fell out! Sure are tough!

Its pretty amazing how they duck/jump your arrow! That instant reflex must be due to the threat from above!

Way to go! Ya gotta watch out now, though... there's things are addictive!

Way to go......

It took me longer to take a squirrel when I first started out than it did to take a deer.  Not for lack of trying, just for lack of actually hitting one.

You have to consider that a trophy.  They are tough to hit and sometimes even tougher to expire.

They are so small and hard to hit. A squirrel might be the ultimate bow hunting challenge. That is a real accomplishment.
