Smoke in the Shop
« on: January 17, 2010, 11:00:00 AM »
A lazy Sunday morning, off to the usual start, prying my eyes open, a cup of hot coffee and a Sunday morning breakfast of buckwheat pancakes.

I eventually wandered downstairs to my secret hideout, my oasis, and lounge- my basement shop.

I slipped Primal Dreams into the CD player, forwarded to the elk bugling and screaming, and went to work finishing up the arrows I've been working on. My faithful retriever asleep on his blanket, my youngest son curiously watching over my shoulder, I couldn't think of a better way to start the morning.

Soon enough the last of the fletches were applied, and the burner plugged in. As the wire began to glow, I anticipated that  wonderful aroma that signals that my arrows were soon to take flight.

Soon enough, that acrid smell filled my shop. The dog soon departed, but my assistant gladly took over the camera for me.

These are an experimental batch. 5/16" Hexpine shafts, with 4-4" LW feathers, tipped with a 100 gr WoodyWeight and a 125 head. They are gonna finish out around 620 gr, with 225 gr up front on the business end. I'm have to tinker with some bare shafting yet to fine tune the length, but I think they are gonna work out fine.

The smoke lingers in the air, Primal Dreams playing in the background. A good start to the day.

A little ice fishing this afternoon, and this evening we'll start staining shafts for my son Austin, while his brother starts fletching his creation. I'll post pics as we get them finished.

I love when i spend the day in the man cave. UGH
And in the end when i can no longer draw the bow or watch the arrow embark on its flight;when i posses only the spirit of the hunter, i will hunt.... if only in my dreams... because the hunt is born amidst my soul, and i... i am the hunter
