I own a Firefly that fits the bill. Jim can also cut the shelf past center if you like. I had one and sold it   :knothead:  but got another.

As already said, there are several models out there to choose from. I WOULD recommend getting one that takes both longbow and recurve limbs;Morrison(Shawnee or Cheyenne),Whisperstik, Zipper, A&H, just to name a couple. This way you can still shoot both(at least I do). You say you like a larger grip so I would recommend a ZIpper. I enjoy a more smaller grip so I choose the Morrison. For a forward handle type bow I'd say the Whisperstik. As always, you need to shoot a bow to find out what you like.

I did not see Hummingbird or Crow Creek longbows listed under this thread . There are a lot of good 3 piece longbows, and I have not shot many . These two shoot fast and smooth . Roy

I recommend an A&H ACS CX with the 14" or 16" riser. I was also able to drop bow weight and maintain great speed. Very effecent bows! You will not be disappointed.

You're going to get a list of everybody's favorite on this one. From what you described, I wonder if a Bob Lee TD longbow might work for you? Even new, you can get a real deal on one. Check bobleebows.net and the classifieds here.

For a 3 piece, you might want to try the Orion by Dryad.  I like mine.

Thanks for the input guys!
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

bohuntr,

If you really like tht Big East recurve and the grip, I'd hold out for a Fedora Xtreme or the Kimsha Shadow 3 piece T/D longbow. (basically the same bows)

As for as lengths, I have a 30" draw and haved owned a few Fedora Xtremes and Kimsha Shadows and they were all 60" with the 12" risers. They were smooth all the way back to 30" and shot great. These are some hi performance hybrid longbows and the speed will rival any recurve.

A Morrison Shawnee will be real tough to beat. Bob will make grip however you want it. Take him one you like and he will copy it for you.

In 29 posts you have like 23 different bows.    :biglaugh:   Think about what you like in a bow and find something that fits your style. I will say that I am a Pronghorn fan. Though Bob morrison is making amazing bows.

If you have a large hand (that would be me).. Crow Creek, Schafer and Foley are good ones for you.  All three are quality bows.

So Dan are you more confused than ever?????

It sounds like you know what you want, just a matter of finding it. I would go with a suggestion from above and call Bob Morrison or Mike Fedora and get what you want.

Also have you thought of getting longbow limbs for the Big East?

Just my thoughts

I actually have checked into that Paul and I may still end up doing that. My Big East is at Fedora's right now getting refinished. I asked Mike to look it over to see if he could make some longbow limbs. He told me that he could but since the BE riser is longer than what he would use with the standard Extremes he felt I might have to go to at least a 66" overall bow length to accomadate my draw length without getting some significant stacking. Since the primary use of the bow is for hunting I don't really want to go any longer than 64" if possible. On the other hand I don't want a bow that is stacking as I am getting to the end of my draw length. He also told me that the limbs would probably run in excess of $600.00. So with all that in mind I decided to see if there were any used bows available out there that might approximate what I have in mind. Frankly, if I knew for a fact that the 64" overall length would work well for me I would probably just go ahead and order the limbs from Mike Fedora. Mike was a real nice guy to talk with and I felt he was very honest with me about what he could possibly do in terms of making new limbs.
If anyone else has suggestions let me know your thoughts.

If you end up looking at $600 cost that does open up the door to a custom order with any number of good bowyers, including those already mentioned.  Most will design a custom to your specs, including the grip.  I've tried a bunch of 3 piece longbows and settled on the RER LX as my all time favorite of all.  I didn't mention it earlier because you said you were looking for a used bow with a large grip, and most RER's are smaller than the Fedora.  But if you were to order one that certainly could be done.

As I mentioned, I've tried a bunch of different bows and finally found what worked for me.  If you really like the grip that you have I wouldn't buy something else unless you can get a grip that will be similar.

Take a real close look at White Wolf Custom Bows. Tony is offering a 3 piece TD longbow. A real knockout and reasonable as far as bows go. Great color combos and speed too.

I was looking at 3 piece LB's while touring the trad shoots this past summer. The best shooting one for me was a Hill Country "Wildcat" made by Roman Hershberger. I shot it at Denton Hill and should have brought it home with me. Limbs mounted on the belly side of the riser with a forward handle.

I have owned a Firefly and it was a great bow as well. Certainly lots of good ones out there.
