Great performance, Good looks and a Smooth draw...
« on: January 20, 2010, 07:56:00 PM »
Today I recieved the first of two Damon Howatt Hunters I recently bought and went right out and shot a few of my 625grn hunting darts with it.  (Sorry no pictures.)

I knew it was good.

But when I put the bow on the scale it got even better.

The factory weight is marked 52#. Actual @28 is 55# and 60# @ 30" (my draw).
I couldn't have hoped for 2.5#'s an inch, but thats what I got!

My other Hunter is a '73 or '74 with the curved riser detail and is 55# factory. I don't know if it will be too heavy for me. I will choose this fall after a summer shooting them both! I plan to totally re-finish each of  them.

How great is it that bows like this are around to be appreciated by another generation of archers?
For someone on a bow budget these are all anyone could ask for. Great performance. Good looks. Smooth draw.

Joshua, feeling pretty thankful.

I thought you meant Clint Eastwood in The outlaw Josey Wales.
Congrats on the new bow!

The other bow came today!

Its a 1973 Howatt Hunter serial 3044 marked 55# @ 28",

Actual is 58# @ 28" and 65# @ 30".

I can't pull it to full draw yet.

Probably 29" and its totally silent.
The previous owner put felt pads on the limb nock grooves and two sets of cat whiskers. As such it is braced at 8-1/4".

Joshua

Edit: I just finished taking off 4-5lbs by slightly narrowing the limbs. Its now 55@ 28 and 61/62 @30.
Now new FF ready tips and a re-finish. These era Hunters are very nice looking bows.
