...."many moons ago" My 1st. SELFBOW !
« on: January 21, 2010, 12:19:00 PM »
This in my 1st. selfbow !   :)   It was made many moons ago. Just a simple D-design. It also killed my first "FLINT" deer....a small Ohio button buck. I called him in with my homemade deer antler grunt call. The bow draws about 26 inches @ 65#. I used a cedar shaft flint tip primitive arrow. The point was made by my friend Norm Blaker of Michigan. I have taken a few deer with this bow. IT HANG MOSTLY ON THE WALL NOW. A reminder of the good old days.
I'll always remember the Late Jay Massey Of Alaska at the Michigan Longbow Shoot. He always wanted to see this bow every year. Jay ...said ! "I like the simple design of a D-Bow !!! Its feel". I guess He was a simple man ...and liked things that way! I miss Him!

I'd like to see Your first selfbow too...Thanks ...Jeff

Nice stick! Get it of the wall and knock the dust off of it and take a trip down memory lane.

Forgot to mention I like the looks of your bow,the art work looks really nice. They all bring back good memories, sounds like with your success with it you have some good ones.  :archer:

...if you see that artwork on the bow anywhere..I made it. The only other bow I didn't make that has it on is a sinew backed selfbow by Norm Blaker of Michigan. I put it on to honor him and our friendship !!!  :)

I have say I sure hope you are aging as well as your bow..lol Osage just keeps getting prettier as it gets older, how about you?

Thanks form sharing it with us. I wish I had kept my 1st one but I had carried it with me to a Mountain Man trade fair and someone who had more money than I did made me an offer that I thought was ridiculous and he packed it home with him. I didn't even make it to the other end of the building before regrets started setting in.
I've traded away and even gave away a bunch of bows after that but I said that day I'd never again take money for a bow that I built and I didn't.

God bless,Mudd
