Interview w/ Rick Welch
« on: January 21, 2010, 12:55:00 PM »
Hi All:

Okay, here's your chance...

I am going to be doing a magazine interview with Rick Welch in a few weeks. I have some questions prepared, but I thought it would be interesting to poll TradGang members to see what's on your minds. If you had some one-on-one time with Rick, what is the ONE question you would ask him. The question can be about anything related to shooting technique, instruction/coaching, bow tuning, hunting, or competitive archery. However, you only get ONE question. What is it?

I'll filter through your responses and try to weave your interests into my interview with Rick.

Thanks,
Ron

Is your phenomenal shooting ability readily learned and reproduced by others or is it largely due to innate natural ability or a combination of both?

I like Kelly's questions!!!

I would add "Since you coach some many archers, what is the most common mistake or problem you notice?"

You say a person does not have to shoot with 3 under to shoot your style, that they can shoot split finger if they like.  Do you still teach placing the cock feather on the tip of the nose and thumb nuckle touching the ear lobe if they shoot split finger?  By the way what magzine will this article be in?

When retuning for split to 3 under for archers what adjustment do you usually make with the bow? Nock point, brace height?

Did he learn the Apache Draw style of shooting from Larry Bamford, or other bowhunters, as this style (3 finger under or the Apache Draw as it was known for well over 100 years), was quite popular with archer's in the 60's and 70's?
