Deer Hide Clothing

I am reading Mike Mitten's book and love the picture of him wearing a shirt made out of a deer that he shot.  I would love to have this done.  Does anyone know where I can get this done?  I would like to see some pictures of any clothing people have had made out of their deer.  Also, for the people that I shoot with, no comments about Iowa deer not being big enough to cover my XXL frame!!!

Be careful doing this.
There was a guy around here who made a vest out of a bear hide he tanned, and when seen in the woods through brush, he could make you look twice. Course that still had the hair on it, but still worth thinking about, if you are going to wear it hunting.

I can tell you wearing chrome or other tan deer hide clothes looks good but is not very practical. The hides used for shirts and other clothing items were made with brain tanned skins. Which is a different material all together and a great project for someone to do. Plenty of reference material for doing it available especially if you are involved or source thru Buckskinners or National Muzzle loader organizations.

I made my cloths out of tanned leather called "Deer tan cow sides" which you can pick up at most tanning companies. I have brain tanned my own leather but it is a ton of work.

I picked mine up at the Springfield leather company in Springfield Mo. great shop and they cary patterns also and much cheaper than Tandy stores.

I do Buckskinning rendezvous and have been soaked to the bone in this leather and it always come back soft.

My experience is.. it looks great!

If it is hot out, you will look good.. and hot!
There is a reason that the natives wore Breech clouts and leggings.

When it's cold out, you'll look good... and cold but is great at stopping the wind.

If you layer wool under you will look good and stay warm.

This seems to apply to any type of tan you make your garments out of.

My 2 cents worth.

I have 7 tanned hides that I bought at a white elephant for $10.00.  I thought I would have a vest made out of them.  I to would  like to know the name of a company that  makes shirts and vests. I think I have enough hide to have my wife and I made into a vest.
