MOAB Fever!!!!! Update...ordered one!
« on: January 23, 2010, 05:17:00 PM »
Come on Guys,

While I am trying to get up enough nerve, information, and cash to "get both feet wet" with a Thunder Stick MOAB, the least you folks could do is talk about them. Most of you have been there--I AM GOING CRAZY--wanting a new bow. I have asked around on here before to see if there is one close enough to go shoot, but 300 - 400 miles is a little too far. Man they look good in pictures.

I have tried longbows before and even though I have bought and made a few none of them have "worked" for me. I always go back to my curve. However, every few years the itch gets raw and I have to try again. A friend wants to buy the last D-bow I built, so some funds should be coming in the near future. Here I go again.

I need pictures, ideas, and comments--PLEASE--help me scratch.

Ben, What veneers are those? And by the way that is a nice group with one of your favorite bows.

I got a MOAB this time last year and I love it. It shoots better for me than some of my other longbows that are similar. Workmanship is outstanding!

Another thing tell Jim to cut close to center, that will help a recurve shooter out.The bow will shoot center instead of to the left.

The Osage and Eucalyptus bow someone (maybe Leatherneck) posted a few weeks ago was the poison ivy.

My draw is 29 ¼” and I want around 50#+ in approximately 60”. Will this be too short? Will it “jar” my elbow?  I know these types of questions are very broad and so much depends on the specific shooter, but would like to get others opinions.

Sorry, I wish I could help you but unfortunately I've been infected myself.

In a feeble attempt to scare myself back to reality I resorted to calling Jim and talking with him.I was hoping for a different result that what I ended up with.

It backfired on me,now it's even worse.

I feel for you!

C'mon - 300 - 400 miles - ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

when I drive out of the yukon it takes me 22 Hours of straight driving to get to anywhere that has 24 hour gas stations  :jumper:

I'd ride a horse if it was only that far  ;)  .

So I would get in my rig on on my rig and take a ride brother.....whats' the worst thing that could happen...BEEEEEEEEEEEEEER

You wont feel shock with these bows and the 60 incher will be fine at your draw. They are sweet shooters for sure! MIne not near as pretty as those above. I have a 59# that is the basic diamond wood riser and real bamboo limbs. Not much to look at but it really shoots quick and quiet.

Ben, if I could get you a hundred dollars would that set off the Hatfield and McCoy feud?

All kidding aside, I knew the Gang would come through. Those pictures are great and the bow Leatherneck posted "again" is what started my itch.

Rob, what are those woods and do you draw the full 28? How does it feel?

red cedar veneers over boo limb cores, cocobolo riser with some other hardwood accents, deer antler limb tips, laced on grip.  i hold at 29" so it's something over 50#.  very smooth draw.  this is truly one very *FAST* longbow, even with 615 to 720 grain carbons.

Mr. Willams, it is truly ok, for I have been on the sidelines here at TradGang since before Christmas just a "drooling".

Mr. Wald, yes I understand and have talked about going to San Antonio on Spring Break (teacher).

Mr. Haner, I will pose the same question to you. What are those woods?

Sorry about the Judo, Mr. Hilt.

Man, this is an awesome site and wonderful people. Of course, I already knew this, but it never hurts to say it again.

Keep it coming.... The itch feels... I don't know better or worse.
