Moose in snow
« on: January 23, 2010, 09:34:00 PM »
Climbed up top this afternoon looking for some sign of ptarmigan, and ok just to get out in the sunshine.  No ptarmigan but spotted a cow moose with a nice view.

Here she is bedded down aways off on the hillside across from me.

Zooming back you can't see her but you see where she is relative to the hillside she's on.

And looking in the direction of her gaze, the view that her and I are sharing.

Have a great weekend.

I miss AK. Hope to get back in the next year or two.

Nice pics.  Hows the ptarmigan hunting normally?

Where I live you really have to go looking for them, and the flocks are usually relatively small, say 5-15 birds.  In the Interior they are more common, and not uncommon to come across flocks of 20-150 or more.  They're generally not vary wary.

Is that an empty bed, uphill behind her?

Dreamy is exactly right!

I think so.  Could be she had moved after a bit.

What a place,, Alaska.  I'm not sure I could handle 50 below with even more wind chill but those views would make me try it once.  LOL
