Tell me about Kalamazoo...
« on: January 25, 2010, 10:00:00 PM »
I've never been to the Kalamazoo expo, thinking about going, tell me a little bit about it. Can you buy supplies, and shoot your bow to check out arrows etc...

Yes, yes, and YES.

Also, you can learn from all the intersting seminars they have along with flintknapping and selfbow making.  Monty Browning will be talking about Alaska and Joey Buchanon will be talking about turkeys off the top of my head.  I don;t know if you've been to Compton but it is a lot like that without the 3D courses and cooking contests.

It is a GREAT way to put off cabin fever.

LOTS of great bows to shoot.

Just to clear something up (unless I'm reading it wrong), I don't think you can bring your bow from home to shoot inside.  Lots of new bows from all over to try out, most have arrows to use, but I'm bringing some of my own this year.  It is a good time, especially this time of year when I feel like a prisoner in my own home...Mike

Joe, I misread your post.  They only have a 7 yards test area...you probably would not be able to tell anything about arrows and it gets too crowded to have everybody binging their bows in and walking around with them.

Cost is something like $10 or 15 for the weekend or slightly less for one day. If you bring your own arrows to try bows, remember it gets real crowded on Saturday afternoon and its hard to walk around with a quiver sticking out. Best time to try bows is Friday or early Saturday but you can always get to the ranges - just a longer wait during the busy part of the day. This is a really good gathering and worth the trouble of driving around/through Chicago from WI or IA.

If you are looking to stock up on supplies or test drive that new ???? you can find it at Kzoo. Lots of time to look and visit or catch one of the speakers. Also a great way to break up a tuff mid-western winter, and get ready for the upcoming season of stumping or 3D shoots.

Shaun, Are you coming?

Thanks Chuck, that was my next question, need to stock up! I have a couple buddies that need a bunch of gear as well, brand new to the traditional lifestyle! Its great, my one friend just bought his first Longbow from John MacDonald a couple weeks ago, he is having some much fun, he ordered another one from John yesterday! He's got it bad!   :clapper:

What is KaZoo like? Its like heaven for traditional archers. Bows, arrows, clothes, bows, flint knapping, bows, bow building, bows, strings, everything and anything a traditional archer couls ever wantto hold in his hand, buy, try, or put on layaway. Did I mention there are lots of bows there too????
