going hog hunting! Broadhead choice?
« on: January 25, 2010, 10:43:00 PM »
Just confirmed all the details! My Dad, Girlfriend, and I are going hog hunting down in Florida!  I'm planning on shooting my 145 grain 2-blade magnus stingers on a 560 grain 2018 out of my 56# longbow.  I know the arrow weight is good to go but would you guys shoot that broadhead or something different? let me know what you guys think

I was told by Curtis Kellar that any good 2 blade is good for hogs.

Yep...killed hogs with that broadhead in a similar setup. Keep them sharp and shoot for the vitals.

Nope, wont work.Thats what a compound shooter the other day at a sport show told me.He said "No arrow under 100# out of a traditional bow could kill a hild hog".He also told me he had a whole year experience in archery. So......There you are.......You bet you can, have fun and post us all some good pic's.

100 lbs!?!?!? I don't know where your guy is getting his info cause I had one behind the counter of a pro shop tell me they didn't make longbows with draw weights over 25#'s.   :p

I figured it would work alright but I've never shot a hog.  I'm excited now I just have to wait until march.

I would shoot somthing differant but that is just my personal choice, the 145 grain 2 blade magnus is a great head and will do a good job. Go get a big one and show us some pics when you get back.

your set will work, I like to use 3 blades myself. I shot a small hog this year and a deer last year with a popular 4 blade broadhead and had no problems. I have taken game with 2 blade broadheads but I prefer a sharp 3 blade for deer and hogs. Good luck with your hunt, aim low and tight to front leg, avoid quarter forward shots.
