Pheasantwood recurve built by a buddy of mine in Hawaii. When I skinned this one all I had was one BIG Diamondback. (I usually use smaller snakes and try to use two per bow)

I have a Pittsley Predator on it's way to me soon    :jumper:  with an osage/gray maple with purple heart stripe riser and it is backed with copperhead skins. What's the best way to keep the skins from fading and/or drying out and maybe peeling off in the future?

I will post pics when it arrives.

Thunderstick MOAB skinned it myself with a Prairie Rattler skin. Very easy to do, this was my first.

Great looking bows guys!!

A question....I just got my first "Skinned Bow" what are your thoughts on strapping a bow quiver onto skin covered limbs?  I just got a Morrison ILF and I'm pretty sure I can not use the limb bolt quiver on that bow however I don't want to chance messing up those awesome "wide band watersnake skins".

Looking forward to all thoughts and advise.  :wavey:    :coffee:

I use a Thunderhorn Lynx quiver that uses the boa straps, I think thats what Thunderhorn calls there strap. I have a picture of my set up on here on page 3. The quiver is on a Morrison ILF like yours. It hasn't done any damage to the skins and I don't beleave it will.

L.E. - I've used my BOA quiver on the skinned limbs many times without any adverse effect. I would be cautious though and let your finish cure for a long while first.

My finish is tru-oil.  These are up to about 20 coats on the skin side now. Not that you would have to go that extreme, but I like the look it gives to the feathered edges and fully filling in the scale pockets etc.  I recently put a few more coats on, then did a satin poly over the whole works.  Looks great and so far so good. One coat a day with light light sand or 0000 wool for a week or two and you feel like a pro.  ;)

The real nice part about the tru-oil is being able to touch-up or fill in a scratch or rub without refinishing  a large section of bow.

L.E. you should be ok with a quiver and those skins, like Ryan and Gordy I have been using a strap on quiver, a Kanati), with no ill affects...

I'm toying with skinnin my original Dwyer LB.
Can any of you guys tell me if the prairie rattle has a green tint to it like the others ?

The bow looks to be walnut like riser with curly maple limbs, and I just don't care for the light color of the limbs.

Would appreciate some recommendation on a dark skin ... maybe brownish...without that gree tint.

Thanks !

Thanks guys. That is a good comparison between the Cottonmouth and the Eastern Diamondback, but I have to say I like the Copperhead. All are nicely done.
