Ok I'm back !!!
Lets start cutting out nock. I like to use a dental lab die cutting saw. You can find them on popular buy site with 100 blades for around $35. There very sharp blades and cut nice and fast. So be carefull using them.
I like to cut about 3/8 inch deep nocks. Look at your string to see how wide you want to cut it. (you can snug it up later if it gets to lose...I'll show you how later in build along)
Ok ...now I use a small dia. chainsaw sharpner file to round off the groove
Take some fine sand paper to it now to make it final shape you like
Now lets get to cutting out slot for stone point !!!
First set head on top of shaft to see how wide to cut.
You can mark it if you want. Also ...mark how deep to. I like wood to go a little past the notch area. (You'll see in pics)
When you cut out don't over do it. I like a snug fit but not to tight. Take your time....You can file, knife and sand groove to get final fit.
One more thing...be careful ... you can cut yourself easy here with stone point (see pic ...ouch !!!)
When you get close to final fit spin arrow shaft on hand to check that point is on straight and true. You'll learn the proper fit the more you build. Its a little tricky to balance head sometime because of shape and thickness of head. Try to get tip even spin on top. Look down point and shaft at the tip to nock. Its a "feel" you'll get with time.
Good luck ... Next we will mount point !!!!
