January 29th after the night before of getting everything layed out by the door the 16 year old son flys home from school knowing he has no time to waste runs in the house shedding clothes as he enters the house slips into all the warm clothes he can as the temp has hit the high of ZERO for the day. He has only a 15 min drive to his area and within 35 minutes out of school climbs into his stand with a 15 mph wind blowing right in his face. He has deer moving within 15 minutes heading towards him. Three antlerless deer moving toward him and he looks them over to make sure there not a buck with no horns. As they get close he's sure there all does and when the first one passes his stand and is qartering away a distance of 20 feet he shoots and makes a good hit and she goes about 50 yards and falls within sight.
As I am home wondering if he's getting cold I get the phone call "I got one come and help" You can bet I was in the truck and on the way before we hung up.He stayed in the tree until I showed up. Then I get the replay that we all do. Sure enough we follow the blood trail about 50 yards and there she was just as he told me 10 times.
Really makes a man proud to see this as the night before I showed him how to sharpen a Wensel head and then to see him sharpen his own 6 heads and put them in his quiver and then go and do this as our anterless season ends on Sunday and to brave the cold and field dress it himself. I'm one proud Dad thats for sure.
