Red Wing brace height

I need some help with an old Bob Lee Red Wing Hunter (58", 47# @ 28).  I recently acquired it for my wife and it looks almost new!  Anyway, the string that came with it had been used on the bow since the string nock was installed at what looked like the correct location.  However, judging from the serving on the string, the string was on upside down (both loops were the same size)!  Anyway, I removed the old nock (probably came new with the string and bow), flipped the string, and installed a new nock.  I drew the bow back and everything felt fine.  The bow pulls right at 47# @ 28" as it should.  However, the string contacts the limb for about 3/4 of an inch below the string groove on both limbs.  Is that normal?  I compared the string to that of a 58" Bandito and the Red Wing's string is around an inch longer, but the Bandito string appears too short for the Red Wing.  So what length string do I need and what brace height range is normal for this bow?

I just picked up a wronghanded, I mean lefthanded RWH for my son.  It is a mid 60's model made by Bob Lee.  It is 43#@28" and is a 58 incher also.  It is also like new.  I checked a couple of websites and forums and these bows seem to brace pretty high, between 8 and 9 inches.  A 54 inch string with about 20 twists put this bow at 8 1/2 inches brace. The end of the string groove is barely visible on the limb at this brace. Hope this will help you some.

Back in the 70s there was about a 1/2 dozen of us shooting the Redwing hunter bows, somewhere between 8 and 9 inches was the best brace height you just have to twist up or down till you find the sweet spot,

I find 8" works well for me.

Thanks a lot guys - that string is too long then.  I will get a 54" string and start there.

Bringing this back up.

I have an original Bob Lee RWH 58" also and it seems this thing likes a string 52.5 inches and about 8.5" brace. At 7.5" the limbs vibrate excessively.

Any other commentary about the early RWHs? Similar experiences? It's a very nice and quiet bow at the higher brace.
