I personally use 10x42 Nikon Monarchs. They are about the best $300.00 bino out there.
Alpen optics are decent and the price is extremely fair. I have been thinking of purchasing a set for my nephews to use.
If you have a retailer near you, go check them out.
I recomend going in and spending some time behind the glass. Like stare at an object for a few minutes and then see how your eyes feel.
There is nothing worse than eye strain if you plan to spend a lot of time glassing. In my opinion, it can make or break a hunt for you.
You should notice a difference between the high dollar and low dollar glass. Find the glass that is in your price range and does not give you horrible eye strain.
Out West, optics can be as important as sight and sound.
Good luck.
