Stone point hunting arrows...

Who hunts with a stone point? I'm very interested in this for the up coming season! I was told its best to have a guy make them for spine/weight consistency, which I have no problem doing! Who does your arrows for you?? Where can I have some made up??

i'm in the process of making up some stone pointed arrows now.
there's no mystical skills required to make them. if you can make normal woodies you should have no trouble making stone pointed ones. just tune them as normal with steel field points.
i've been using woodscrew adapters with screw in points and glue on points. this gives me lots of different weights to tune with.
when you get it tuned with a field point of the same mass as the stone point you intend to use remove the steel point and haft on the stone one.

If you do find ready made arrows they will be spendy.I think Raptor archery use to make them,I know they sell knapped points and may be able to sell complete arrows.
Dont get me wrong. Its mot that I think they arent worth the money,Its that I know I dont have it.But I would love to have some.

I make all my arrows and haft the points myself. These days I use only hardwood shoot and cane arrows but have hafted stone points in cedars arrows. With stone points I use pitch glue and sinew. Even after set up and sealed I can adjust the point with a little heat to be sure they spin true. I would never hunt with an arrow of any type that I'm not certain will shoot well and go where I want it to go so I have a large rubberized foam block target that I shoot all my hunting arrows into.

Joe, Check the DNR regs. I think it reads that broadheads have to be made of steel.

Paul, at my pheasant hunt on monday I was talking with a guy who has killed 2 real nice Bucks with stone heads. When I asked him if that was legal he said the book says if the heads are made of metal they must be sharpened. It really doesn't say stone heads are illegal, I'm going to call just to be sure!

Joe, just checked the regs here how it reads:
Bows must have a draw weight of 30 pounds or greater and metal broadheads must be at least 7/8 inches wide and kept sharp to hunt deer.

Paul, I just called Madison and spoke with a Warden, he confirmed it is legal to hunt with stone broadheads! I always thought is was illegal going by the book of regs, kinda vague area!
