Take your kid bear hunting...free!
« on: February 10, 2010, 09:58:00 AM »
Well, sort of free. Yesterday Hunter's Point Guide Service became a sponsor here and I mentioned that Eldon had a deal for kids. I talked to  him this morning and here is how it works. Maine has a special license for kids 10-16. If you, as an adult, book a hunt with Eldon you can bring your kid as long as they posses the youth license. They can shoot any weapon that is legal and they get to hunt first. As the responsible adult you must accompany your son or daughter until they bag their bear. Eldon will set up a double stand for you. After that you can finish out the hunt  for your own bear.

This info is not on the website yet but will be shortly along with some other neat stuff. If you haven't checked out the site click on the link under my Avatar.

Excellent way to get more kids into bowhunting/hunting in general. That's where the fate of our lifestyle lies in.

Great gesture on Eldon's part to offer this.

Agreed great way to get kids involved.  Im planning on a bear hunt in the next few years and my son will be 10 in a few years I will have to look Eldon up.  Does anyone know in Maine has spring bear hunts?

I talked to eldon on the phone a few months ago about taking my daughter bear hunting and will be sending my deposit in a few months.
Great guy to deal with and great deal to get me and my daughter in the bear woods together.

Too cool.I wish one of my sons was 10.The best thing is you can take them before school starts if you get there the 1st week.

Don't know if I mentioned it before but two seasons ago three kids ages 10-14 killed their first bear. One was a 13 year old girl and her dad got his first bear as well.

Izzy, you are correct....the first week hunt makes it pretty easy to get the kids in the woods before school starts. Most years the first week is also the best week percentage wise to kill a bear.

In addition, Eldon has close to 100 active baits so each hunter that comes into camp is assigned to a bait that has not been hunted so the pressure on the bears is pretty light even as the season progresses.

I'm hoping to hunt with Eldon on my first moose hunt.  It'll be a while, but something to look forward too.

yeah, that's all good and stuff... but there's a downside.

You have to spend a whole week listening to eldon tell corny jokes, laugh a lot, joke around...shoot bears and stuff...but if that's your speed...well go for it I guess.
