Quiver length

I'm starting to get info on making some quivers out of furbearers that I've trapped. I guess the first question is, how long do you like your back quivers? Or what is a universal length? I figure most arrows are 28-31", how much arrow should stick out of quiver without damaging feathers?
Also, although I'll use whatever I can catch, if the length is right, what type of fur would you like to see? Right now I have beaver, skunk, coon, fisher. They are all still raw, and need to be fleshed and tanned. Hopefully I can get a couple made by summer.

Excellent use of a renewable resource. I've got a road-killed male coyote skinned, rolled up, and frozen in the freezer. Sometime, I'm gonna have someone make me a back quiver out of him. I would say that your 28" to 31" should cover most lengths of arrows out there. If it were me, I would measure the length of the arrows that you are going to carry in the quiver and then figure from there.

I just made some skunk hide quivers for my 2 sons.  If you make quivers out of skunk, prepare to be ribbed.  People thought I was crazy, but the quivers are beautiful.

Prepare to what? Get sprayed? Stink up the house? LOL. I got hit in the foot today from a skunk I caught this morning. Pants and shoes are outside. My wife is used to the smell too, although she doesn't like it much and makes a big scene everytime I come into the house smelling like one.
How did you skunk quivers come out? I'd like to see them.

I did not get sprayed too badly.  Its not too bad because after about 10 minutes you can't smell it, everyone else does though.  They are really nice I will try to get some pics.  Both are double striped, one joins togather on the tail, and the other remains doubled on opposing sides of the tail.

I bought a skunk hide thinking i would make a back quiver out of it.When i got it,it was to small.About to month later i got the idea to make a side quiver.I made the quiver out of leather and then glued the hide on it.The head or the face is hanging from the pocket with eyes i got from the craft store.And the tail hangs too.Turned out real nice.Got a lot of complaments.If you PM me your phone #,I`ll send you some pics.That`s the only way i can send pics.

Twenty or 22 inches are fairly standard quiver lengths.  Very rare to see one 24 inches.  Lots of older quivers made in the 50s and 60s were 18 inches deep.

Thanks Orion. Shorter than I was thinking. Which is better, since most pelts aren't too long.
