Hunting Chital Deer...(Pics)
« on: July 12, 2006, 07:39:00 AM »
Well I thought I'd post a few pics from my wife's new digi camera that I've taken on the last two hunts on Chital Deer. Or as you lads call'em Axis deer. Enjoy...

Yep, looks to be a stag or two in the area. Better get some practice in between now and when we meet!

This is there crrek line that they water in from time to time. This spring has never gone dry I've been told.

And what do we have here..... hmmmmm this tree was just right for an afternoon poppy nap.

And after lots of slow walking look what pops up....

I'll post some more later. My bed is a callen!

I was thinking the same thing Denny, along with dropping my pack, raising my face mask, nocking an arrow, re-checking the wind, and looking for a good approach!

Awesome pics Alan!  Can't wait to see the outcome!

Are those ant mounds or termites?

Yep it's Basalt all right & Termite mounds. Your right Denny, it's the only way to hunt here in Oz. Stalking in socks that is.

This is a Deer trail that I found in the knee high speer grass. Real nasty stuff this grass. Just ask Joseph. This trail lead from there beding area to where they feed every night. Not a bad ambush site but very little cover.

Here is more rub trees that meet up with one of there game trails. Rather used don't you think?

Back down in the creek line again. As you can see in the pic they like usen the cover of the dead ground. Note the deep worn trail on the left.

 More to come............

These big Black Oak trees are there bedding areas during the daytime. Impossible to approch when the deer are in here as you stand out against the light green grass.

Well it's the last morning and look at this Dawn will you! Nothing has been put on the ground as of yet.

Just looking at those sneaky midgets  has put me in a good mood. Maybe 2008 for me up at Bill's. Spent today chasing the same Sambar stag that has been giving me nightmares for two years......As soon as I'm north of Dubbo I'm a takin My socks off for that final approach kinda hunter...but decided against it today as down here in Vic. there's a foot of snow on the ground...thicker socks....thicker socks....
great shots Alan , please post more
Cheers
