Which trad shoot do you all recommend?
« on: February 12, 2010, 10:14:00 AM »
Since I sold my house and got rid of of all my "chores" I will now have some time to be able to travel to some trad shoots this year; never have been to a traditional shoot before so which one {ones} do you guys recommend?

Thank you......  :campfire:

...there are some Texas shoots you might want to consider since you're somewhat close...Chester (east Texas) and the Texas State Longbow Championship (just west of DFW) are both fun events.

Comptons for the family, Denton for fun with the guys.

Not that you can't do either at either shoot, but that's my justification for going to both.

Then there's always ATAR in WV for hanging out with my Southern friends.

Compton is a must in anyones book. McAllester Ok first weekend in August wouldn't be to far for you. Flat Rock north of Springfield Missouri is a great one. These are a few close to you.
Good luck have fun.

Can't find any current data Cloverdale, Indiana, but it's normally the third week of June I believe.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

There is Flatrock Stickbow Carnival by Sprinfield, MO about the 3rd weekend of May. The same weekend usually is the Jerry Pierce Memorial shoot in Mississppi.
Cloverdale is usually around the 2nd weekend in June, then Compton is usaully on Father's day weekend.
Some of the Texas ones are good and might be closer for you.

Compton is good, a smaller one but real good is Whittingham N.J..

Cloverdale is the second full weekend of June and then the following weekend is the Compton shoot. Some folks just go from Cloverdale on up to Compton and make a camping/shooting weeks vacation. There is no competition at Comptons, more of a traditional rendevous/fun shoot, with lots to see, buy and do. Great outing for kids with special seminars and activities geared for them.
Cloverdale is a competitive shoot and it is by far my favorite course, but I have never made it to the bigger eastern shoots.
IBO trad shoot is in July in Clarksville, TN and should be a good one if you are looking for the competitive shoots. Good luck and have fun! Mike

The North American Longbow Safari is near the end of June in Libby, Montana.  It's pretty laid back and a lot of fun.
