ANTLERS STILL ON !
« on: February 13, 2010, 10:03:00 AM »
Was driving to work this morning at 6:15am and had a nice buck try to run in front of my truck. Both antlers still on. I've noticed this for many years in Randolph County in Southern Illinois where I have always lived. I have seen many bucks with antlers still attached up untill the middle of March. Just passing this on as information as I see a lot of people have been finding sheds in other areas in January already.
Have a good day;
Bob

Oh yeah.  I have 3-4 big bucks that visit the backyard that still have headgear.  Not uncommon at all to see deer through March still carrying both sides.

had my spike and 4 point in the yard this morning for breakfast like normal  :)  they will stay on for another 2-4 weeks pending on weather patterns. I will assume they will come off in the 2 week range though cause of all the cold and snow we have. They dropped early in MO this year! first of january I had 3 bucks under my stand with no antlers.

I have been seeing alot of bucks here still packing as well. However i did see one from my truck Saturday morning that had just recently dropped it's left side. Another couple weeks and it will be time to start looking hard for them.

Saw several feeding just before dark yesterday. Didn't have the binos in the truck, but at least a half dozen still carrying a full rack. Couple of really nice ones! Not unusual to see racked bucks into March. Mike
