I'm a new hunter, go a few quail with a pellet gun as a kid. I went out for the spring turkey hunt last season at Cache Creek with not a turkey seen or heard. I'm looking for any tips you might have, places and tactics to try and at least see a turkey this season in the Sierra foothills. I've been scouting in Spenceville Wildlife Refuge and haven't seen any.
The local archery range in a city park here in Sacramento has a ton of turkeys that are easily approached, but I don't think that would go over to well.
Im not asking you to give up your secret haunt, but if you have suggestions for places to check out that are reasonably close to Sacramento or Petaluma (my brother lives there) I would really appreciate it.
I've heard so many scary stories of Lake Sonoma gun hunters I'm staying away from that but will try to get out on the archery side.
Good luck this spring!
