Thanks guys.

The judging was based on TASTE only, with each judge only getting a bite for a sample.  So third place was quite an honor.

There's absolutely no way I would've let anyone cut that if it had been mine. I can't say what I'd have done with it long run but I'll guarantee you that until the "awe" wore off nobody would be touching it!

My wife was one of the three judges.  As Paul said the judges were given a small portion of all the cakes entered in the contest to taste.

Anyone that belongs to the MLA and didn't go missed an oustanding night with great food and even better desserts.

I tell you that was the best looking cake I have ever seen.  We took several photo's.  I agree with others.  There was no way it should have been cut up BUT because it was I had two pieces.
