new bow order final decission

I'm down to the tips on a new bow order. I just can't decide on whether to throw a few more bucks in for horn tips. Are they any better performance wise or is it just an aesthetic thing?

Mainly just the looks of it. But they do accent some bows very well! IMO

It's the look. That is it. The bow won't perform any better.

One respected bowyer I talked to said he would not use horn tips. He said that overtime the glue would break down. I don't know if it is true or not. If you are like me you may not have it long enough to test that theory. They do look nice.

My bowyer told me that the tips take more abusr than any other part of the bow as far as coming into contact with stuff. He said horn would stand up to the abuse better than wood. Help performance, no.

I have bows with and without antler/horn tips....I always use a tip protector on any bow I'm using, so the bottom tip is covered anyway. I'm not willing to pay extra for something that is going to stay covered up.

I've had two horn tips shear off. I'm done with them. I cover one tip with a protector anyway. Too small a detail.

imo, all that matters with limb tips is that they're super strong .... and look good (pure aesthetics) ...

I've seen some horn tips that look good and some that do not.IMHO some bowyers leave the horn too thick and blocky.Make sure you like the way your bowyer does horn.Personally I like more stable materials.
