Coyote hunt
« on: February 23, 2010, 10:35:00 AM »
I was out Saturday morning trying for coyotes and decided to take a break.  It was 10 degrees and setting still calling was getting a bit chilly!  Had no shots but came close.

Thanks for the picture. I'm pumped. I'm going to give it a try. The guy in the picture looks like a real hunter.

Jerry, I've been on snowshoes since the 2nd week of December.  We're finally down to around 30" base right now with the past three days of 35+ temps.

When you said "Had no shots but came close",did you mean you seen a coyote? If so,how close did he come to you. That would be pretty cool to get one with the bow.

The coyotes have been running hard behind my place this winter so I made a trip up in the moon light to get set up in the area they seem to travel through the most and then "mouse squealed" with my mouth just after first light.  A group of them started up yipping and came in through the thick stuff but I stupidly set up where it was too open and they wouldn't come in to good shooting range.  However, a male and female red fox did later but I let them pass.

Thanks for sharing your day. It is alway nice to have a good fire on the winter day. Don't dogs always have a way to stay out of range.

Good set up on the hunting and wisely taking a break.  Dogs are hard enough to get close with a rifle much less in trad bow range.  They are a true trad trophy and one of the hardest to collect at that.  Good luck to ya and stay warm.

I think that the coyote is the hardest animal in the world to kill with trad bows! I am still trying!

:wavey:Sounds like a good time. Isn't it amazing how good that little fire feels after you've been out there a while?
