John Scifres.  I have owned several of his bows and they are great.  In fact, it may be time for another.

In my opinion no one makes a nicer selfbow then Brad Merkel of Little Tree bows. He posts on here from time to time, I'm sure you could find a way to contact him on here...

Hey! Glad you like the bow. What wood is it? I sure hope someone kills something with it. There are many much better bowyers than me! I was just in the wood shed today thinking I could start hackin on something. Also we have had an excavator clear a bunch of hickory trees for a new basketball court for our daughter. A smart guy would split some out right now!

Mostly I have decided it was more important to spend more time with my daughter while she's still young. I like hunting alot so I had to give up bow making to keep hunting time availible. I'll make a bow or two in the future. I have a pc of osage that would make grown men fight over it.

The best self bows I ever saw were made by Scott Feltch nearby in Hanover. He makes mine look like kindling wood. Not sure if he is making any.

Only 25 more years untill retirement...do you think osage stave last that long?

This bow was made for my brother. I think it was the best one that I made...still it's nothing like what other guys are making. Plenty of flaws!

I'll second John Strunk. I don't own any of his bows, but I do know that he can make a bow from from the most godawfully twisted piece of wood that most of us wouldn't even consider. I think he also pioneered the cherry bark backing idea.

Couple the crazy staves with the crazy backings and I don't think you'll find any more unique looking bows anywhere. And I'm sure they don't give up much in the shooting dept either.

Gordon Ferlitsch (Gordonf)makes an outstanding bow. He's made bows for several friends in this area. I prefer the bow he made for me over all my other bows. Personally, I think they rank with the best.

Mickey Lotz makes a great selfbow although I don't think he sells them.  Maybe he'd trade one for a knife?  Doc

Eric Krewson makes a fine selfbow.  I have a 66" osage bow 54# @ 29" and it shoots like a rocket.  Workmanship is outstanding and Eric is a first class person to deal with.

Dean Torges makes the nicest selfbows I have ever seen. His bamboo backed are awsome as well. The man knows wood. What else can you say?

Of the bows that I have personally handled I like John Strunk's, Gordon Ferlitsch, Mike Cochran and Don Adams bows.

There are many, many more that I'd like to see and shoot, at the top of that list would be a bow by Manny (NorthShoreLB).
