hog hunting in texas in june
« on: February 24, 2010, 04:10:00 PM »
I was e-mailing back and forth with Buddy bell. He says to be wary of the rattlers.

I will be coming through there around june 10th. if there is anyone who wants to show me the ropes. Buddy is looking at moving soon so i think he's out.

Take snake boots or snake gaiters / chaps and then you won't have to worry as much.  Lots of rattlers in Texas.

Besides the rattlers, there are ticks and poison ivy.  Bow fishing is hot then.

You weenies the snakes are just targets, poison ivy keeps you up on your botany and with enough alcohol in your system ticks won't touch you  ;)

This is going to be a great trip.

I am starting in Red Deer alta

then off to houston - then it's up for grabs - play there for a bit - then head west staying low towards tuscon eventually - then up to the grand canyon or west to california - need to go throught the red woods and up the 101 - heard it amazing road.

then up to Seattle to see the grave of BRUCE LEE and then off to vancouver then home to Whitehorse.

about 15,000 kms total - Can't wait to get on the road.

So that's the planned route - have to be in Kitchener for around the 18-19 of may - four days there and then i am FREE.

holidays for a month. Wife will fly to milton and then meet me in california - we will fly to

Puerto Vallarta to see a friend and then she will fly home and i will fly to where my bike is and then home too.

Gerardo - Well if I wait till I retire I might not be able to do it....

CHuckC - I have a friend I met there when I got my Pinzgauer - just wanted to stop by and say hello.

Steve H: that's tooooo funny, i guess my test will be Milton (hope to get climatized there)

I grew up in kamloops British Columbia - hotter than a 45 after a bank robbery there - 125 F in the shade - It's been awhile though....will be nice to hunt in a "T" shirt instead of a PARKA though   :biglaugh:

I just can't wait to get the final preps done. It's always great getting all the gear together then thinning out what you absolutely don't need and then loading the bike.

Cranking up the music and talking to ppl onn the cb is always good.

I can hear it now...start her up...listen to those pipes rumbling..

Push the iPOD and "born to be wild" is always my first song. Then head to the border and the ride to the sun through Glacier National park...what a view.

I will but this thread will probably be long gone...i can post a new one of the trip from start to finish though when the time comes.

Maybe I will have a snake story too...never know.

I remember when I was a kid sleeping in a pup tent with my brother. it had holes in it (one of the cheap ones) but we gave it lotrs of use.

Well one morning I woke up and I knew something was in my sleeping bag.....i could feel it moving.

I had gone to bed with my long johns on and socks.

i wanted to wake up my brother but he wakes up fighting if you know what I mean. Then I started to think of all the things it could be. I had heard the snakes would crawl in at night to stay warm etc (didn't know if the stories were true but it didn't matter when you are ten).

Anyway I woke my brother up and he was swinging but he didn't touch my sleeping bag...so.

I told him there was something in my bag and you could actually see it moving from the outside...my heart was in my throat.

He got out of his sleeping bag and opened the tent door and tied it open....then he slipped down to the zipper on mine and slowly started to open it...real slow like.

then plan was that when he got it opened far enough for me to get out quick he would fling it open and then i would high tail it outta there.

Well we were just about there and I was sweating up a stream on my forehead.

he got ready to fling it and i was prepared.

On three...ONE.....twoooooooooooo.....Three

He flug it open and I jumped and ran.

I was so scared, but I was fast and so happy to have my brother there.

Well the eyes on that CHIPMUNK were as big as saucers and mine were too. He jumped up ran into the wall of the tent and then up the side and past us so fast it was unbelievable.

I near crapped my pants. WOW was I scared and so was he.

Well we patched up that old tent and fixed the zipper and that was the last time that happened.
