RediEdge Single Bevel Sharpener
« on: February 25, 2010, 01:48:00 PM »
Has anyone here had any luck with the "New" Grizzly sharpening it on the Redi Edge Single Bevel Sharpener? I love the Grizzly but it was always a pain to sharpen, since they changed the bevel degree i was wondering how good the sharpener works!

I saw a post on another site and at least one hunter was singing the praises of the sharpener from Alaska Bowhunting. I use the KME on the grizzlies and that has solved the problem for me.

mnbearbaiter,
I mentioned on another post.
I just got the new 200 Grizz El Grandes.  No kiddin, in maybe 15 minutes I had both edges on one broadhead sticky, shaving sharp.  Also, I did not take any weight off the head, not one grain.  I have never gotten the 190 grizzly this sharp.  I really can't imagine it getting any sharper.  I could polish it a bit more but right now it is ridiculous.

Richie, what means of sharpening did you use? So the "New" Grizz are easier to sharpen then?

The new 200 grainer are easier for sure.  I took about 10 grains off mine.  Using a heavy file stone and leather.  They are much nicer then the old ones. My method takes about 30 min per head but Im pretty slow

mnbearbaiter,
To sharpen the Grizz 200 all I use is a dull flat bastard file, a ceramic stick and cardboard.  I just pull the flat file down the edge to get a small burr, stroke it with the ceramic and strop it on the cardboard.  It creates a real smooth but sticky edge.

Richie, do you go from heel to point like you would when file sharpening a double bevel? Does anything need to be done to the backside of the edge? Id love to get the sharpening down pat and use this head for elk! The price is right to, and they made it so you can get left or right side bevel to match fletching which is great for me cuz i use left wingers mainly!

I believe the new Grizzlies are 130,160 and 200.I don't have any yet but they look good.It sounds like the ferrules are also vastly improved.

Just looked at the redi edge  I would NOT recommend this tool for single bevel heads. They are making it a double bevel.  If you prefer this type of sharpening method get the single bevel tool from Alaska Bowhunting Supply. I just use a grizzly file (6" Grobet) and they pop hair...
