"One of us"....I like watching
« on: February 28, 2010, 10:29:00 AM »
Fred E.'s in Illinois, shooting his recurve, this morning (Bowhunting TV).  He takes a 1.5yr old buck, and he's genuinely excited.  He even states the buck is going on his wall.

How refreshing, in today's horn porn environment....that this guy's still got a show, reflecting such.

Whether a buck like this one does it for anyone else or not......is irrelevant.

O I got to meet him one day!!!  I love his show, and his persona towards our sport.  He is probably the best thing to happened to our sport in a while.  He has that everything is a trophy mentality, and I think that is so important for youngins to see, especially youngins into tradional archery.

I just watched it, i have a question....Before i ask let me just say, none of my parents or any family members hunted. My hunting has been self educated and learned as i go. on to the question. am i missing out on a tasty treat by not eating the heart and liver? ive shot plenty of deer, but never even thought to try slicing and frying up the heart. what does it taste like? ive had chicken livers i like them, is it similar?

Iron, the liver is more like beef liver.  My wife says it's great, but I just can't do liver.  The heart can be boiled and sliced for sandwiches.

Fred is a class act and H E DOUBLE L of a hunter.

His show is the only one I watch that I know when it comes on.  I still watch a few others, but only on the rare occasion I have nothing else to do and something is on the dvr.

The heart is a muscle like any other.I guess it's just the way we relate.Slice it, fry it with a few onions and peppers.Once while shopping I wanted to buy a beef tongue. My wife said she wasn't eating anything that came out of an animals mouth. She then proceded to pick up a dozen eggs.Go figure.I was kind enough(smart enough)not to say anything.

It's all about personal satisfaction, that is why I love bowhunting!! I love it when someone see's my trophy wall of 1 1/2 year old bucks and states that they passed on several like that last season, etc... good for them, I have a full freezer and the excitement of the hunt was all I could ask for

I'll have to check out his show sometime!

I love beef liver but deer liver , although similar, I just don't care for. And I don't know why. Anyway, the heart is good. You can also stuff it with different things and bake in the oven.

Hey guys,

While looking through some "You Tube" Traditional Bowhunting video's I came across a couple of guys who go by the name of Black Widow Productions.  They have a couple of their videos that are with the recurve, you can really see their excitement and disappointment, check them out, well worth the look.

For deer heart, my wife slices it, fries it slightly and then simmers it in it's gravy with some onion.  DELICIOUS!!! You can also boil it and when cool, slice it for sandwiches; this is how we do beef heart, but for deer, the simmering in gravy is the best. IMO!

For deer liver, we slice it and fry with onions, but also add Worchestisier (SP?) Sauce as it's cooking--great improvement!!

Fred loves a big rack as much as anyone, but most days he is just thankful that anything is within range.

I agree.

I want to be the first person to shoot a doe in each state in the country.  I Think Fred would understand.

Fred is my hero. I hope that I can keep my enthusiasm for the sport as well as he has.
Our family loves seeing his reactions every time he's on a hunt.
