I find the FOC stats hard to believe. 25% FOC would be a balance point with 3/4 of the arrow on one side. Please double check and let us know. 37% would be around 4" from the point end as a balance point!!!!!

Very nice looking shafts. Excellent footing splice with long "fingers" and an extremely dense wood tip. I picked up a couple pieces of Blackwood at Kzoo and it is heavier than water - it does not float.

You're right Shaun...my mistake. Too tired last night and didn't put the right info into the calculator...how about 12.5! I woke up this morning thinking that can't be right. Sorry.

Snag,

I did finish them and if I knew how, I would post pics. But I finish arrows pretty basic anymore (no more cresting or fancy fletching) so they are not too exciting to look at anyway.

I used the water based sealer from 3rivers. I hand rubbed 3 coats over the footings. After wards, lightly steel wooled with super fine and dipped the shafts with 2 "squeeged" coats and one full coat. So far the sealer is holding up good.

Good Luck!

I stained them with Minwax english chestnut. It darkened up the grain in the fir. Looks great with the Blackwood.

Ok, now when I bareshaft them I am going to be cutting off the end of the shaft to shorten it. Instead of gluing on the nock can I just push it on and shoot it? Does it matter if the nock comes off in flight? Or should I barely glue it on or hot melt wax them on????? I usually cut down from the tip end.

Consider using rubber cement on the nock. It should hold together during flight but will be easy to take off (if it does not pop off at impact) when you need to.

I push on points and glue or push on the nocks for bareshafting........... on a footed shaft I cut the nock end anyway-I guess everybody does.
