totally subjective - neither is better than the other, both are great, both will get the job done for a trad bowhunter!    :readit:

Killdeer

When I started shooting bows, all I ever saw were endless loop strings. In the eighties, I "discovered" Flemish strings, and that is all I use now. Easy to make on a small jig and adjustable.

I watched Rob make an endless string, but he injured himself badly and I am afraid of them now.      ;)

endless string spinning is not for wimps.

and so, as you have seen, miss killy, making endless strings is only for us he-man macho killer instinct types what like to live dangerously, precariously dangling on the far flung existential rim of the petri dish of life.

or something like that.

maybe.

sorta.

Sounds like it's a good thing I like the look of a nice flemish twist. Wouldn't want to get hurt or anything.  :scared:

Flemish. Really enjoy building them.

I like to make flemish strings but I think endless can be made more precise.I use both.

Flemish, Have not tied a endless for 20 years think my endless jig ended up on the scrap iron pile

on some bows, mostly primitive or self or board or organic composite, i'll use a flemish/bowyer's loop string - just easier to adjust brace height.

I always liked the look of the flemish twist string and after learning to make my own... it is my preference,

For the most part it's six of one and a half-dozen of the other, but in some cases one has the advantage over the other.

I can think of two instances where an endless definately has the advantage:  really short strings (really short flemish strings are a bugger to make properly), and horsebow strings with the siyahs (sp?).  Those giant loops make guaging the length properly a test of nerves and patience.

I like the adjustability of flemish, and I like the look better.  I can and do make both, with 90+ percent being flemish...at least for now.

I had no idea making endless strings was so dangerous though--from now on I'll be sure to wear protection!    :help:

i'll add one more plus for endless strings, chad - far easier for everyone to make the perfect length string first time and every time thereafter, than a flemish string (pro flemish stringmaker's not withstanding).

Looks like flemish is clearly more popular here. Endless is all I ever knew about, so they get my vote. Never had any trouble with them. I know they last a very long time and don't come apart.

It seems like eveyone is talking about making strings. I dont, I buy mine and I can get an endless string for less than half the price of a flemish string. Two color flemish strings are very cool looking and I did buy one once at a closeout sale. Cant say as I noticed any performance differance.

endless can be 2 or more colors, too.

Can I ask a question? I don't have any experience with a "homemade" endless, just what I've seen on bows or maybe bought a few over the years out of an archery store.
Anyway, I'm guessing that they too will stretch so do you just twist them up if and when they do stretch? If that is the case, do they still shoot like an endless string or do they become a twisted string and perform like one?

Are they pre-stretched maybe?

Thanks in advance!
God bless,Mudd

PS Does anyone make their own endless? Are they more or less difficult than the Scottish twist?
