So...You're run and "bow" turkey hunting...
« on: March 07, 2010, 08:58:00 AM »
I'm gonna be doing more of this, this year.  Coupla Q's.

1.  What do you use to hold your minimalist "gear".  All I plan on taking is a slate and glass pot call; few strikers....and a couple of diaphragms.  Less is definitely more in this area....but convenience/accessibility is paramount.

2.  Has anyone used one of those "accessory" straps that 3R (and others, I'm sure) sells to fully secure your back quiver in place?  I can certainly use the Arrowmaster, but I'd like to know it wouldn't slide to one side, if I had to contort to get a shot off.  If you've crafted something similar to this, I'd like to know how you did it.

Thanks.

jeff

The Arrowmaster has a carabiner that you can clip to a belt loop. Do you use this?

Yeah.  But that won't stop it from slipping off my right shoulder, when I lean to the right.  The "strap", would.

Now I'm gonna have to go try to make mine slip. I am a little smaller than those quivers were designed for, so I will likely have better luck at it than a big, strong, man! (Place batting-eyelash gremlin here.   ;)   )

Put it on your back.  Shoot a quiver of arrows into your favorite block style target (on the ground).  Go retrieve them (arrows) and lean over to your right (carabiner attached).  Your quiver will fall off your shoulder (of you're RH).

I LOVE my AM quiver.  I'm just looking for a method of securing it.

Won't you take the quiver off when you get set-up?

you are braver than I. . . I cant go afeild without anything I could possibly need, lol.  Plus that and when I go, I wont come back untill noon.  So I need breakfast, water, etc.  The main think that fills my pack is my decoy.  I am hunting without a blind likey you and I want them looking at something else when I draw . . . not to mention all the extra camera gear I will have . . .

you use my catcuiverI when iturkey hunt. It has the small packto hold a bottle of water, one slate, one mouth call,my small knife,  lighter, and a snak.  I use a  strap to attach my roll of blind material.  It stays put when hiking and then I take it off when I set up.

GM, I have never got a shot at a turkey without setting up first. I am not sure what you are trying to do but to shoot at a bird while on your feet or stalking is almost impossible. I carry a little stool to sit on and mini catquiver, a few mouth calls and some water and thats it. Full camo from head to toe.

For all of you guys that have an arrowmaster quiver, how good does it work if you use a lumbar style fanny pack with shoulder straps, for decoys, calls, and such.  I'm really liking the looks of these and am just trying to gather all information before pulling the trigger.  Mark

Jeff,

From your photo I see how it can swing to the right.  What I have done for sage brush sneaking, is to snug that strap up a bit tighter and move the carbiner down to where the strap meets the quiver.  Attach the carabiner to a belt loop or belt right on the hip - not forward like you have it.  You have a lot of "slop" from the carabiner position and the length of your shoulder strap.  You will have the quiver a bit more under your arm instead of across your back but it works for what you describe.  Best of success on the turks!

Ray...

Just got back from stumpin'.  Wish I'd read your post before I went.  I'll definitely give that a try.

Get a small fanny pack.

Get a vest with a game pouch on the back and use it for storage of your gear.
