Ace vs Grizzly vs Tusker BH

Got a date with a Moose this Sept. and I'm figuring out my BH's.

I've been shooting Zwickey's for so long I can't remember not shooting them. I want to step up in BH weight (I shoot cedars) So I looking at the Ace Express, Grizzly and the Tusker Concorde.

I bought some Ace Express 165gr. and when I got them I was a little concerned about how much punishment they can take. I've never handled the Grizzly's or the Tuskers. So, what do you all think about their toughness in compared to the Ace Express?

Might want to take a look at the Abowyers also if you want more weight and are concerned about punishment.  They are built like tanks!

If you are thinking about Tuskers this should help. The abowyer heads and grizzlys will treat you well too. I just like the video.

Based on all the experience with comparable heads there probably isn't any measureable difference between them.

On the Abowyers, is the ferrule the same piece of steel as the rest of the head or is it separate but attached?  Never really held one to know.

Found them.  Ok so after watching more videos how about an abowyer brown bear. Yes I think that would do a number on a moose.

geez, moose.  they're as big as cars.  the abowyer brown bear would be a great choice, i'd think.  

i hunted in texas for hogs with ace standards on woodies and wound up with just some rabbits.  the ace worked almost too well, as expected.  then again, they were just little texas bunnies.

i've used grizzlies on woodies, but just for flight testing and no hunting.  they took a lickin and kept on tickin when i took some roving.

i just got in a buncha tusker concordes, stuck'em on some woodies but haven't had either a break in the weather or work to fly 'em yet.  

 

they're pretty heavy metal, but no where near as heavy as the abowyers - those heads are panzer tank armor.
 
long way of saying, definitely consider the abowyer heads first.

If you like the Ace heads, but are concerned about the 165-grain Express, you may want to try the 160-grain Standard. I've been shooting the 125-grain Standards since 2004 and have yet to damage one on anything up to and including a bull moose.

The 160-grain Standards are probably the absolute toughest glue-on head of that weight I've ever handled.

if yer broadheads are hot melt glued on, you might wanna consider the braveheart (now 3 rivers) internal weight footing.  this will add between 20 and 80 grains to the front end, while at the same time stiffening up the shaft behind the head where it usually busts off.

remove the ace heads, drill and epoxy in the preweighed nail footing weight, reglue the ace back on.

I have a BH "IWF" jig.  Works well, just need to shoot those arrows now.

ACE 160's are close to my favourite broadhead along with Tusker's . Grizzly's are tough but i ain't that good at sharpening them  lol . you can't go wrong with any of them .

I've used the Ace Express 165 and have full confidence that it is up to the task. It isn't  going to be as tough as the Ace Standards, ABowyers or Grizzlys, tho.  The Tuskers have a pretty thick blade but the ferrule looks to be just spot welded around the edge and stops a long ways from the point.  The new ElGrande Grizzly looks really good.

I've been shooting the 160 Ace Standards.....the most heavy duty,double bevel BH I've ever had,spin true,and sharpen easy...

Of the broadheads mentioned, I can only offer an opinion on the grizzley - zips straight through whitetails at 20 yds and could have used it as is for the next shot. Stayed very sharp.

Have not heard anything negative of the other 2. Might have to try them out next year.

i think any of the heads that where talked about would do the job i realy like the grizzlies but realy want to try the abowyer javie lights maybe next year

Not to hijack this thread, but how do the Steeleforce single bevel "Ashby style" heads compare to the others mentioned here? I like the price tag on those better and have bought a set. I'm impressed so far but a little concerned about the aluminum ferule...
