Question on footing shafts

My question is does footing the shaft lower the arrow spine. if it does what spine should I start with in the shaft to get a footed shaft of 60-65#. I would like my arrows to be 28" BOP for my 26" draw.

I will post here so that maybe some "more" experienced folks will post.

considering the footed shaft is usually a harder material, like purple heart or osage. and the joint is fairly strong with glues available. I would think the spine would be stiffer.

On the arrows I have footed I havent checked the spine on finished arrows vs pre footed shafts
(will do it in the future for reference)

i would think it would make tt a lil bit stiffer but not that much sence it's at te point end and most of the flexing is in the center of the arrow or behind the footing even though the wings reach down the shaft be hind it but with out spine testing one it's hard to say how much stiffer it would be it's a very good question

The glue joint might be stiffer but most bending occurrs it the middle, so no real effect. The addition of hardwood at the front adds weight and could add 5# of spine requirement to your arrow depending on the lenght of footing you are employing.

Bjorn, I agree. And being you are actually adding more wt. to the front end, wouldn't you really only be bumping the FOC and weakening the spine?

I asked one guy at 3rivers and he said that he hasn't had them change more than a pound or 2 if it cahnges. but he aslo said that its about 50-50 when he talks to others that the spine got weaker by up to 5lbs. the other half said that the spine didn't change on the spine tester.

Now I'm not an expert buy no means, but when I have been tuning my arrows that were a bit weak for my bow I cut them down to make them fly true with my 145 GRN heads. after they are flying true I check every one on the spine tester and the spine is the same as it was before I started.

Q- 1. does any one else get this result

If this is true then I will have to experiment with one arrow in the 65-70# 60-65# and the range to get an arrow in the 60-65# finished spine correct?

I will probably use one in the 55-60# also just to cover my bases.
