Solana Ranch Pigs
« on: March 17, 2010, 12:49:00 PM »
I hunted Solana Ranch with my Dad, my two brothers, my best friend and his Dad this past weekend.  Two of us hunted with recurves, the rest more modern choices.  We had a great time.  Great location, great scenery, good food, lots of game and good people.

This is where we stayed:

We saw lots of these:

A few of these:

A few of these:

This was the biggest of those:

We did a little of this:

Most importantly we saw some of these:

On the first afternoon, I had a couple of group of pigs come in to my stand.  They fed about for some time, the biggest managing to stay just out of range.  A group of shooter pigs feed my way and I decided to take a shot at one of the black ones at just under 20 yards.  The shot looked good and as the pig turned to run I saw my arrow hanging on by the fletching on the off side.  The pig ran about 80 yards and dropped.

I was hunting with a RER Arroyo, 50 pounds at 28, drawn to 30, Trad Lite arrows with 200 grain VPA Terminators.

I hit another pig the next day, but just a little to far forward and the pig was not recovered.  Lesson learned, broadside on a pig is not nearly as good as quartering away.

Had some good group pics, but left them out here as they included the more modern weapon choices.

It was a great time with family and friends and will definitely be going back.

Talk about flashbacks!!!!!!

Glad y'all had a good time.

Wow, the grass has filled in and the mud is gone. It sure is different than what we saw on the TradGang hunt. Congratulations on a nice hunt. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I am looking forward to getting down there again in December.

Terry, you think it's funny seeing a Solana thread and you not being there, just imagine how it makes me feel---I was going out there for years before I introduced you to the place....

Yep,been a year or three but I'll never forget that morning you spent the whole time "on point" up at the oil pan stand, or ol' Easton, or John Wilson trying to speak for ten minutes after he missed that big nine-pointer up by the limestone cave, or that giant black boar that came and threatened you that night on the tripod...man, I could go on and on.

My daughter keeps telling me I should write a book, maybe one day I will
