FINISHED! Vermilion River "Snake" I'm STOKED!
« on: March 17, 2010, 08:48:00 PM »
Bill at Vermilion River Bows sent me a teaser of my bow in its infant stages...the excitement builds! It is my first custom.

It will soon evolve into a three piece 62" longbow. The woods are fiddleback walnut and curly maple. I liked the idea of domestic woods, but I did opt for the actionboo core for performance purposes.

I've always enjoyed watching skilled craftsmen work, whether it be an artist, bricklayer, etc.

Bill at Vermilion River Bows is one of these. He is graciously allowing me a peek at his skill through pictures of him crafting my new bow and it is enhancing the buying experience greatly.

Below are several pictures of him shaping my riser.

Now, that's what I call "Black Walnut".  That's gonna be sharp, Dusty!

Yep, Bill will be sending my bow in a few days.  Anxiously waiting for the chrono report (60", #58@28").  It's a beauty from the pics.

Limbs being prepped for glue. Now I know I'm a little biased but, are those veneers sweet or what?!?!

Just wanted to add that Bill is in keeping with the 99% of people in the traditional archery world who are helpful, courteous, and patient to no end.

I wish I had the money to have him immediately begin a new bow after this one has finished. I don't even know how it shoots but Bill's personality alone will make me believe it shoots 10fps faster!

Bill builds a great bow in all ways.  I have one of his recurves and one is not enough.  I will be adding to his work list soon.

To Dusty, I haven't checked this post lately but if you're still here tomorrow you'll see pics of the Raptor that Bill put together for me.  Got it in yesterday.  And everyone's right - Bill's a very patient and courteous dude.  And the bow is a nail driver!

firsted,

I had Bill check out this post and after seeing my post about wanting to see your bow, he emailed me a picture. Outstanding. That myrtle(I think its myrtle) is awesome. The limb veneers are superb as well!

Hey, Dusty, I'm not too good with pics but here;'s one of my Vermilion River Raptor.  The riser is fiddleback walnut and myrtle as are the
overlays and veneer.  Limb cores on this one are black locust with the
same for the wedge and the grip is medium. Length 60" 58#@28"
The bow's a nail-driver & shoots right where you're looking.  Highly recommended.  It may be too nice for me to take to the woods without preliminary planning but that's just me.
Thanks,

Eddie
