Shed hunting last weekend
« on: March 18, 2010, 10:26:00 PM »
Brother Shane and I did some scouting and shed hunting last weekend.  We got some good leads on some hunting property and found some sheds as well.  Total time shed hunting was about 5 hours.  I think we did well.  Three matched sets and 2 skulls.  Chad

Nice, Chad!

I've spent over 50 hours looking for sheds since the beginning of February, and my total "take" for all that effort is a single 6" spike!!

It's not for lack of trying, but I'm striking out.  Congrats on your finds.

Found two sets last year, one a couple years old about 15" apart.  One fresh on either side of the fence.

Two of the matched sets were about 300 yards apart.  One was about 40 yards.  The deer were concentrated much more then usual due to about 3 feet of snow on the ground this winter.  Last weekend there was still up to 1.5 feet of snow in some places or we would have found more.  Deer had come from miles around to winter near farmers hay stacks and silage piles.  Chad

I look hard every year and have yet to ever find one single set. This year I hung chicken wire to hopefully snag a set. The score still stands at "0".

That's a good day right there    Congrats!

I saw these bucks on the way into work last night, 2 had dropped and 2 still carrying.

I saw my first buck that had dropped his antlers a week after Christmas this year and there still going.
