Making some bag targets from heavy burlap. Anyone have any input as to what to use to weatherproof the material so as to extend it's life?

You could try a roll of shrinkwrap to cover the edges and so forth. Might still want to throw a tarp over it when not in use though.

I had a bunch of bag targets rot out over the years. I decided to make a permanent target stand with a roof. My targets last a very long time now.

If the size and shape will work out for you, try seed bags instead of burlap. They are some type of "plastic burlap" and stand up to outdoor conditions really well.

I've picked 'em up all over. The UStuff it's are good, you can buy those for about ten bucks each. I've also picked em up for free from retail stores that resell seed. They buy seed in large bags and resell it in small lots to the public. I've also picked up a few from one of our local schools by talking the groundskeeper into keeping his seed bags.

Use industrial strength trash bags(use 2 or 3 and stuff them first and then put them in the target) as a liner for your bag target and then spray the outside with silicone. It will help keep it from rotting.and just re-spray it every 2 months.Or you can do as I do and use a body bag(as a liner) that I get from work(Medical examiners office).Or I put plastic foam squares(closed cell) from a packing or shipping plant in a couple of trash bags and then in the bag and they work well.
