Made it out to the pheasant club I belong to the other day... to be fair, it's a shooting preserve, but when you're flinging arrows at 'em it's a bit more of a "hunt"....
kicked up 9 birds... first bird of the day looked like it blew up! Feathers everywhere, and the bird continued to fly another 200 yards out of sight.. never found it. Just hit the tail end of the bird I think.
Here's a pic of a close miss... note the arrow in the air
And the puppies locked up, hard at work...
pointers sure make it a bit easier! Tried to shoot behind my flushing lab a few weeks ago. Got a few shots off, and took a few tail feathers off of one flying perpendicular to us about 15 yards out from right to left. A great shot if I do say so myself, but nothing to show but feathers, so I guess not quite as great as it should have been!
Finally, everything fell into place, and I took one right through the neck with the field tip and adder... dropped like a rock! My dad snapped the pic at the perfect time too!
One thing I did notice on the picture is my HORRIBLE follow through! Release hand is up and out, dropped my bow arm, leaning backwards (that's in part because of shooting upward I tell myself). Please feel free to beat me up a bit on this aspect of it! I need to work on that!
Good Times though! My buddy went along and I loaned him my Ferguson longbow, and he even got one out of the air! A great day out doors!!!
