Custom Bow, what woods?
«

So just ordered a 3 piece take down, and am toying with my wood selections - currently has a riser of tx ebony (which is a fine-grain chocolate color)and nicaraguan cocobolo (reddish, strong grain wood). Limbs are 'Ambrosia maple' - or a maple with knots in it.
Trying to picture the combination and thinking I'm working in too many colors to the bow - not sure about the red & chocolate combo.
Thinking of going with either Cocobolo OR tx ebony, and some form of maple in the riser to tie it in with the limbs. . . what do y'all think? Am thinking red cocobolo & maple could be a slick combination. . . .

I think a busy, multi-colored riser is good as long as the limbs are left simple. How 'bout the coco and ebony riser, with some stained bamboo limbs?

How 'bout throwing in some osage with that ebony? Heck, osage goes well with anything.

Here's a pic of the limb material I'm looking to build the bow off of. I believe the veneers will be from the same piece of wood, so should have similar look.

ok, you convinced me with that pic. Sweet limb veneer! Should go with the riser, nice contrast.

The land of deathtrap traffic, huh?
If you ever make it down to the Springs sometime, we could go shoot.
I've got a bow on order also, a Lost Creek, so I'm feeling your excitement! My first custom, and now that the order is finalized, I'm over the mental whirlwind of wood selection. Nothing but sweet, waiting, bliss. LOL

This is a Sarrels out of Tx. I placed the actual order, but may make a couple tweaks to it before finalizing. I figure I have a little bit of time - it's a 12 week wait.
So you're saying I should go with one dark wood and a maple variant on the riser, or the original - 2 dark woods on the riser. . .

I looked at the Sarrels website...nice bows!
In my opinion, the 2 dark woods on the riser would look great with the limbs.
