What are your favorite Bow wood combinations?
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:46:00 PM »
I am getting the custom bow bug, but I am not sure what wood I want to get.  Help!

What are your favorite woods or combinations of woods in riser and limbs for both performance and looks?

Pics of would be very helpful!  ;)

This dark Cocobola and Chechan sure turned out well. Western Juniper veneers. Bighorn Sheep overlays, grip, thumbrest and tips.

There are too many beautiful wood combos to choose from. I do really like my osage limbed, black walnut risered, one piece, 56" Pronghorn.

I've always wanted an Osage and Purple heart riser with Osage/bamboo limbs. Just never seemed to make it happen.

I have an osage and shedua bow. I think they compliment each other real well. But I do like simple bows... I want it to look like it was carved out of one piece of wood. My next bow will probably be all one wood. I had an all bocote bow once. I think that can be a REAL nice bow but it depends on the quality and grain of the wood.

In summary... I think a real nice piece of wood is what makes a bow. You can have a boring piece of cocobola that needs complimented or a fantastic piece that needs nothing with it.

My personal favorite is highly figured curly maple limbs with rosewood (take your pick:  bolivian, brazilian, cocobolo, etc...) in the riser.  Too many nice combos, though.  I also really like osage and cocobolo...Mike

I like a dark wood such as Ziricote or Macassar Ebony combined with either Bocote or Zebrawood with some lighter Maple accents.  Cocobolo with Osage or Juniper also looks really nice!  Snag is right...this is part of what keeps us coming back for more...

I really like the look of Bocote paired with a darker wood like coco. But I do have one with bacote and osage that looks really sweet.
